NJ Center for Mime
www.yasshakoshima.com

Through carefully designed physical and mental exercises of Eastern and Western origins you will learn the most important basic elements of body awareness, dynamics and function. These will give you body strength, flexibility and correct breathing. You will begin to use your body as a whole to express your thoughts and feelings more freely and be able to use communicative skills as well as your physical expression. Based on this knowledge of body awareness, the easy step by step practice of classical mime technique will help you gain self-confidence.

About Yass Hakoshima
Emmy nominee Yass Hakoshima, internationally acclaimed mime and movement artist, is one of the great practitioners in his field. He blends Japanese and Western techniques into a new, personalized mime style that has made a reputation from New Zealand to New York and Hong Kong to Berlin. A teacher, choreographer and performer as well, Hakoshima has taught and performed in more than 400 cities in all but one of the fifty US states. In 1976 he established the Yass Hakoshima Movement Theatre and the New Jersey Center for Mime, the only professional mime training center in New Jersey, incorporated as Danmari Ltd.  His Cine Golden Eagle Award-winning video, "Dream Journey," was nominated for a NY Emmy award and received the Charleston Silver Award. He was also named as an outstanding solo performer by MACA. Last year he premiered "Duality" with the Da Capo Chamber Players to great critical acclaim.
"...Mr. Hakoshima, whose face reflects emotion like a pool of mercury, brings an eclectic movement vocabulary to the art of mime and colors it with new accents."  The New York Times

Children, teens and adults are invited to explore their creative sides at Bass Arts Studio. We offer classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, fashion design and illustration, sewing and more. Small class size and step-by-step instruction help to support the budding artist that exists in everyone. Learning is project-based, so children learn skills such as line, value, proportion, composition, texture and color theory while their imaginations are actively engaged in exciting creative projects. Analytical and critical thinking skills are developed as children learn to talk about art. Teens learn to translate the world of 3D form onto the 2D picture plane as they explore the fundamentals of drawing, painting and composition based on direct observation. Skill-oriented teaching provides your teens with the building blocks to enable them to draw and paint what they see while learning to listen to their inner creative voice. Bass Arts Studio specializes in helping high school students construct their college entrance portfolios. In addition, Bass Arts Studio also offers an exciting 6 week Summer Art Camp for children, ages 7-12, a one week Fashion Camp and a one week Teen Art Studio Intensive, as well as theme based birthday parties featuring art projects based on your child's interests. Fern Bass, owner and director of Bass Arts Studio is a working artist who widely exhibits her work in New Jersey, NYC as well as internationally.
