Looking for ways to unplug your child and encourage outdoor exploration this winter? Join experienced Birder, Deborah DeSalvo as she brings an after-school Beginner Birding Series to the Van Vleck Gardens. Starting in January and running through May the series will be offered in groups of three on Wednesday afternoons. Each class will include a lesson, guided hike, and a bird-related game or activity. For students in grades 3-5. Feb. 3, 10, 24 -Seeing – Everything you ever wanted to know about bird ID. March 3, 10 & 17 -Listening”- Learn to recognize bird songs and decipher what they mean. April 7, 14 & 28 -Flying – Explore the marvel of winged flight and the miracle of migration. May 5, 12 & 19 -Nesting – Spring is for nesting and eggs. Special focus of warblers. June 2, 9 & 16 -Spotting- Discover location and habitats through binoculars. Registration required.
